Mixing things up this month, instead of the new The Walking Dead #129 review, I am going to review the new Rocket Raccoon #1 comic in honor of Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy hitting theaters next month.
For those of you who don’t know who Rocket Raccoon is: he is part of the Guardians of the Galaxy team and is obsessed with “big” weapons. He reminds me of Boba Fett, if Boba was a raccoon and hilarious. The comic does a good job in introducing Rocket to anyone unfamiliar with his character, even going as far as giving bits and pieces of his backstory. He describes himself as the last of his kind (like The Doctor), but as we learn in the comic that might not be the truth. It also introduces the audience to the character Groot, who is also part of the Guardians and can only speak the phase “I am Groot” (like Hodor from Game of Thrones). Star-Lord also makes an appearance along with Drax and Gamora (although the latter two did not have much of a role and the audience would not know who they were without previous knowledge). The whole issue is hilarious and fun for anyone 12 and up. In the issue, Rocket is accused of crimes he didn’t commit and is wanted across the Galaxy. Can Rocket find this other “him” and learn the truth to why he is being set up? Find out in Rocket Raccoon #2.
