It's no secret that I am a fan of Lexy Cooper and her creator Christa Charter, so when I had the chance to read about Lexy's latest exploits in Pwned, I jumped at the chance.
Now, if this story was less entertaining than watching a mosquito chow down on uncle Larry's plumber's crack, I would be in a very awkward position. I don't write reviews to appease. Thankfully, Christa's second tale of sex, drugs, gaming and murder is just as juicy and engaging as the first. In fact, it's even better.
Imagine you're on top of the world in your favorite field. Suddenly, you go through a traumatic event that leaves you slightly scarred but at the same time makes you stronger. Well, Lexy has gone through this transformation and is now faced with another murder. And you thought the video game industry was all fun and cherry sprinkles. Let Christa again show you what really goes on. Not only is Lexy attempting to get her life back on track, but she's now faced with actually having a relationship, keeping her job away from circling vultures and fending off twig and berry sharing creeps as well as that little matter of finding out who killed that dead guy.
If you haven't read Schooled, I suggest you go and do so now but if you're looking for a quick Lexy fix, you can jump straight into Pwned without feeling like you've missed an eternity.
The characters range from seedy and disdainful to cheery nymphomaniacs. Let's just say, whenever Lexy needs a good Nordic hammering, she gets it, burning villages be damned.
Not for the faint of heart, Pwned will take you on a journey through the dirty back doors of one of this generation's favorite past times.
From the description:
One fine autumn morning in Redmond, Washington, Lexy Cooper stumbles upon the body of Xenon coworker Declan Brown, a self-proclaimed "Game God." But who put the knife in his chest: His low-life brother? His favorite stripper? Professional rival (and Lexy's ex) Nate Howard?
Homicide Detective Mike Malick is on the case along with Officers Mark Rogers and Cricket Yi. Will Mike track down the killer before his old Army buddy turned FBI agent does? Will Lexy help or hinder his investigation?
And has Lexy met her match in champion snowboarder Ash Brevik, or does he have a dirty little secret of his own?
Go behind the curtain of the video game industry with smart, irreverent, sexy Lexy as she navigates the dangerous waters of big money, high tech, and murder.
