Four years ago, Kari "The Don Wan" Toyama was working at Safeway, and trying to come up with an alternative way to help raise money for Breast Cancer research than contributing to the store's bake sale. She wanted to somehow involve gaming, and eventually hit upon the idea of a Halo 2 tournament. Asking for and receiving support from The Cavegirls (her long-time gaming group), she and Cavegirls' Co-Founder Tasha "Zoom Demon" began organizing. Okay, actually it was more like we wandered around the PAX floor with our bag of GamerchiX APPROVED buttons waving them in the faces of poor unsuspecting PAX goers as we tried to convince them they were not worthy to be anywhere in our space if they did not have one stuck to them! We've seen PAX grow from a smallish, smelly convention in Bellevue to a massive rockin weekend in Seattle. This year as part of our new GivingchiX initiative we decided to channel our energy to fight poverty in King County.
