I'm new to the gaming world and noticed that alot of CHIX get together at conventions and actually lead active lives in the game world. I live in a small town in Texas and have no idea where to start looking as to what conventions are near my city. I haven't been gaming that long but I totally love it, rpgs amd shooters are my fave. My box is down at the moment but i'm looking forward to playing again. So as a newbie where would I start?

I don't live in texas, but would also be intrested to know if there are any near me as well. Is there any kind of master list for gaming conventions? I have never even heard of a lot of the ones mentioned on these boards.
