I'm a pretty tech savvy person, but I find that I'm behind the times when it comes to social networking. It seems everyone has a Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Bebo, etc (a new one pops up every days it seems, can't keep track of them all!) account. I'm mean Petsmart even has a Twitter and Facebook account. An Internet store is cooler than me...
Am I the only one??? Or are there any other outdated fossils like me? I'm not too sure why I have avoided them. I see where they have their usefulness, but I guess I have enough time consuming activities, and it seems once you start, your addicted. At least that is how I perceive it, when my friends describe those sites.
Although, I may just have to create a Facebook account! Madame Dork has been after for me for months to get one. One day my dear....one day.
My FB is used every minute of the day, twitter is checked every minute of the day, and I am always chatting to people on MSN, usually sending the wrong message to the wrong people, but all my contacts are used to it! :D
I have a good reason though, I have 'mild agrophobia' according to my Dr, meaning I rarely go outside, and when I do, I never talk to anyone unless I have met them quite a few times (regular baker, market veg seller etc), so my only socialising I can get, is through all these networking sites. But I just stick to FB and Twitter.
knikitta---It's situatons like these that these social networking sites can be very useful. I'm glad that they help you stay in touch.
The closest thing to social networking sites for me is the forums. I am addicted to the forums.
I guess maybe some of my resistance to some one these sites, is I don't think that I am a very interesting person. I don't think anyone is dying to know what I'm doing at any given time!
I used to think that... then I got completely addicted! I am like a nosey neighbour now hahahaha
On a serious note, it is a fantastic way of sharing pictures, daily life and instant messaging with friends and family. I have found these sites invaluable when I want to share a 'pictured' moment with friends!
Its great being to able to say in a chat: Look what xx just did!
So Bella, when are you going to sign up for Facebook and MSN Instant Messaging???? (love the smileys on this site by the way, they make me laugh)
I have Twitter, but I never use it. I don't get the point. The things people share on it seems really silly. Some share helpful or informative stuff, but most of it is just silly. I like Facebook for sharing pictures and talking with friends. I do put up silly posts, but not to the extent that some people update their Twitter accounts. I just don't get Twitter. I've tried.
I"m on facebook and myspace but I hardly get on myspace anymore. I'm all about Facebook but even the last couple of months I'm not on FB the way i used to be.
I refuse to make a twitter account though, I dont need to be on some other social networking website. Actually up until like 4 months ago I didnt even know wtf twitter did!!! LOL
As far as being behind the times, I feel like I'm not that caught up with the music some of the younger generation listens to. I mean I listen to a lot of music but I hardly turn on the radio so sometimes I hear a song and it turns out it's really popular and everyone knows about i except me! hahaa
i would be behind the times if I didn't have internet because I hardly ever watch tv. I visit facebook and these forums just about everyday so lol I'm a little addicted to the intenet. I have a facebook and a myspace account. however, i never use my myspace anymore. Twitter is pretty dumb to me. I made an account awhile ago out of curiousity and I wasn't even sure how to work it at first but now my account is just sitting there. All the music I hear is from the radio also. So yea I would never know anything if I didn't have a radio and a computer lol. Oh yea and I browse youtube when I'm bored.
My friends at school are all about the realit tv shows and celebrity gossip so I guess i'm way behind the times to them. But eh that stuff doesn't interest me much it depends.
I wouldn't use any social network if it weren't for Xbox Live, haha. Oh yeah, I do use msn but that is just to keep in touch with friends. I don't have a facebook, myspace or twitter account, not because I don't understand how they work but because I don't want to. I guess I'm old fashioned. I hate facebook, if I want to share pictures with my friends I don't feel the need to first post them on the internet, once there they stay there forever, even if you remove them. I have never understood myspace and I hate hate hate twitter. Why do I need to update everything I do at the moment? Why on earth would my friends or any other people for that matter, be interested in what I just did or am doing? I even hate sending people text messages. I want to talk to people, if they live in another country, fine, then I talk to them over the internet, but if you're my friend I will call or hang out with you if I need to talk to you.
The funny thing about all this is that I "grew up" with all this technology. I turn 20 in about 4 months and according to the statistics, 98% of women my age has a facebook account, 95% a myspace and 87% a twitter account. I guess I'm just not normal.
Facebook has privacy settings, so only friends that you add can see them, you can even name which friends/family can see the pics, or you can make them completely public to everyone.

I know, but it doesn't matter to me. If I want to share my pictures with friends I don't need to post them on the internet first. Privacy settings is a joke to me. Once you post a picture on the internet it stays there. It seems like these websites gets hacked every now and then and when that happens even the best privacy settings won't help your information from spreading.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but I can't help to laugh everytime there's some teenager on the news complaining her pictures are on websites she didn't put them on. You put it on the internet, once there, it's no longer up to you where they end up.
i tend not to bother with the social networking sites, theres too many for me to keep track of, and i honestly cant be bothered, i have a facebook, which hardly gets used, i have a myspace that hardly gets used and i have a raptr which gets used ocassionally.
I have had myspace, never liked using it so rarely did. Got facebook and use it a lot more. Found a bunch of childhood friends and people I haven't seen or talked to years who live in different cities than me. Twitter I use here and there. My messanger is usually on from the time I get home til I go to bed. Use to be on all day at work but work lately doesn't leave me much time to socialize so its a hit and miss there. Sometimes I log on for a minute and forget to log off.
I love the networking capablities that we have been given and the world it has expanded.
