So, as a lover of WoW and soon, TOR (I'm sure). I have to ask. Do you RP?
I love MMOs and I love WoW. But I truly believe if I was on a normal/PvP realm, I would get bored quickly. I love making characters, giving them back stories, making up their little interesting quirks. I am also a lore nerd, so I love looking things up and, well, yeah.
I am a huge RPer, all my chars have huge background stories that I adapt and evolve as my 'game' goes on.
In an MMORPG, I am rarely OOC, and even then, it is confined to whispers or party chat as and when required. I haven't found a single 'piece' of RP or RPers in Aion yet, even though I am on the unofficial RP server. :(
But I played on Moonglade in Wow, and occasional hopped over to Argent Dawn to be nosy.
I love RPing! I miss it! The major MMOs I've Played: EQ2 80 Mystic Shaman - Antonia Bayle(3 years) and WoW 80 Rogue - Emerald Dream(2 years) is where I got into RPing. In both games my guilds hosted weekly RP events. Too much fun! I think I had more fun RPing in WoW considering it was RPPvP server and I enjoyed doing both at the same time. Haha.
I also enjoy writing stories and backgrounds of my characters.
Anywho, since then I've kinda calmed down on the MMOs. So time consuming and addictive! I quit WoW after reaching 80, not long after WOLK expansion came out. Just got bored of same ol' same ol'. Same with EQ2, long ago.
Right now, believe it or not, I am playing Perfect World International. It's no EQ2 or WoW but it is satisfying. I've met some nice folks on it and it's a nice break away from other games. There are things I could complain about in PWI but since it's FREE...yeah I'll keep my mouth shut.
My online MMORPG history consists of Ultima Online, Diablo 1+2, 2 Moons, Knight Online (lol), RuneScape, EQ1, EQ2, Guild Wars, Runes of Magic, WoW, PWI
I used to RP a lot when I played Ultima Online. I met my DH in UO, but he's not a big RP'er, so I usually don't RP a lot when we're grouped. I always have back stories for my characters, though, and if I meet the right people I do RP when I'm not with my DH. Both of us tend to prefer RP servers though, because overall the people seem nicer and better to group with.
We had a smallish guild in WoW on an RP server, and for the most part, people didn't really RP much in groups, but we all had back stories, and people would write them up and post them on our forum. It was fun .
I'm not really the RP type despite sometimes throwing myself into small RP events my old WoW guild had. I'm more of a PvP geek mixed with serious raider with no time to even try proper RP. I'd love to try it some day, but I think I'd have a hard time because every toon I make is male. Yeah, male personalities are not my strong point in life, I'd fail and bad.
I have never played WOW but I do play Kingdom of Loathing and it is a hilarious and fun MMORPG. I have been tempted to play WOW but have resisted the urge so far.

I've never played Kingdom of Loathing. You are right to resist the urge to play WoW, it's too addicting. The reason for that? There is just so much too do within the game. You can craft, pvp, pve and most of the time it seems to never get old. You can collect mounts, pets, work towards achievements to name a few more. Trust me, you'll get sucked right in and want to play all the time.

I've found it easy not to log on to WoW. I might play for two weeks off and on throughout the week and then not play it for three weeks. Sometimes longer than that until I remember I'm paying for it. Then I start the cycle all over again. I'm kind of an antsy person though. I spend 10 hrs three days in a row sitting at a desk at an office. Then I have to spend 8 hours sitting at the one in my house the other two days while I work from home. By then my butt just can't take it!

I've never heard of it but FREE has me headed there now!

I think it's addicting to me because when I started I was in a really fun guild with friends. We'd pug raids, pvp together, and just have fun. Well, most of them quit playing last year. I switched servers, met some nice people, but it's not the same. I can't openly be myself, as I have a very perverted sense of humor at times, and the only guilds that would allow me to be like that naturally are usually filled with guys who try and hit on me. At least from my experience that has come to be truth. I think I'm so addicted because I'm trying to find that one guild that has everything I like, which is probably impossible.

Oh, I hear you on that. When I started, I was in a guild with a few guys who were just goof offs, and everyone was just leveling. I don't really have a big desire to do raids all the time like most people do. I'm mostly biding my time until Cata comes out so I can level a goblin rogue! So I just play with one friend who raids three nights out of the week which means I don't play and level those nights. I'm like you though, I want to find a guild that I think I can belong in, and so far that's not happening. D:
As far as RP goes, I'm waiting for The Secret World or the World of Darkness MMO. It'll be a while but I hope they're both worth the wait.
