Thankfully for me hubby is really responsible with money. When we were young and had just moved out I am sure we would have gotten into a lot of credit card trouble if he wouldn't have talked since into me a few times. Anywho, with our kids getting older and having to pay for their college soon I am glad to say we are debt free. We have a credit card but only use it for emergencys - and even then we can usually dip into savings first. We did have to use it this fall to pay for a $3000 repair to hubbys truck transmission but we have that paid off now (thankfully). If we don't have the cash we don't have it, end of story. We have never gone without food (although we eat cheap) or necessities, but do have to listen to whining teens a lot. Seriously, if you want a $30 t-shirt work for it! Hubby is going to grad school again (he went to KU for History now IU for english) so between paying for his classes and raising 5 kids we are broke all the time but it is worth it since we will hopefully be able to help the kids out when they are ready to head out on their own. But I will be honest, I can't take credit, it is all hubby

I was telling hubby we should look into getting him a new truck and handing his down to our son this summer when he gets his license but that means a car loan- hubbys idea is to split the cost of a used car with our son, since he has a job as a haybailer and lifeguard he has a money source and he should learn to save and be responsible. Hubby's way is better I will admit and we will all walk away happy but that is a good example of his good and my not so good.
