So, in my intro thread, I joked about replacing my camera, but I think I may really do it! My inlaws took Hub's suggestion for a birthday gift for my gadgetgirl self and got me a giftcard to BestBuy that I haven't used yet. It can cover some of it. smile

My Fuji S5000 camera is just shy of 7 years old. It still works and has taken many a beating, but with only 6 megapixels, I'd like to upgrade. I can't afford anything ZOMG-worthy, but I'd really like another digital SLR. I'm eying the Nikons at Best Buy, but I like word of mouth to begin researching from. Anyone into photography here that has ideas?

I wish I could help but alas I am not camera saavy, haha! I have a Kodak camera (actually from Best Buy). It's one of the easy share ones with 10.3 pixels. It's very small, but it's an amazing camera. It took some incredible pictures of Hawaii last year! Notice I said IT took because I just sort of pointed and clicked, it took care of the rest and the pictures came out beautifully! One of two videos I took with it turned out really well too. I was pretty amazed and the functionality of something so small.

Well, it depends... How much of a budget do you have in mind...? I've had a Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR for quite a while now... But I had a $1,000 off coupon when I bought it... (Best Buy) >_<

Woah that's a nice camera! smile But yeah, my BB gift card is only $100 and Hubs is wanting me to take his $100 BB giftcard (we'd be swapping giftcards) so I'll only have $200 off. I was really hoping to not spend more than $500-$600 (so $700-$800 pre-GC) but can give or take a bit if the camera is awesome. lol

My needs (until I find a good class to get me more confident) are a solid, basic Digital SLR that I can grow into/add onto. Best Buy has some kits that include extra zoom lenses, but while I want one, I'm not sure 1) if I really need an extra lens yet and 2) which lens is a good bet.

Not sure if you're still looking for a camera (oldish thread haha) but I have had a Canon Rebel XTI DSLR for over 3 years now, and I love it. It's a great "beginner" model of the DSLR's, and now that it's sort of out of date, you can easily get the body kit and the standard lens for about $700 - $800. I have a couple extra lenses, but I've found that the one it comes with has a great range, and I usually find myself using it the most even when I lug all my extra lenses with me. The body itself is solid, no problems with mine for the whole time I've had it, and the photos are really good quality. Lots of accessories and add-ons for the body too, so anything you could ever want from lenses to flashes, you can either buy from Canon or other companies that make them, which is usually cheaper with little to no expense to quality.

I personally like the Canon line of DSLR's, and I'm actually looking to upgrade sometime in the future, probably to a Canon 50D. A few of my friends have Nikons, but their interface and camera layout seems a bit wonky to me, while Canon's features and buttons are all easily accessible and quick to use.

Hope that helps!

That DOES help, thank you!! grin The more ideas the better for me. smile My finger keeps hovering over the Buy button for the T1i, but I haven't clicked it yet. The big purchases always make me hesitate. (which is a good thing in the long run, but still LOL) I'm also having a harder time justifying replacing my Fuji to myself when it still works just fine, like at the beach on Monday.
