Earlier this evening USA Today officially broke the news (which as of this writing has been pulled from USA Today's Game Hunters section) that Microsoft's Project Natal's final name is Kinect. Most likely a play on the words 'connect' and 'kinetic,' the Xbox 360 peripheral is expected to make an impact with its controller-free, motion sensing technology.
FIVE Kinect Games revealed:
1) Kinectimals - lets you interact with, train and play with 20 different virtual cats, including a lion, cheetah and tiger.
2) Dance Central - similar to Ubisoft's Just Dance for the Wii.
3) Joy Ride - racing game for your avatar.
4) Kinect Adventures - co-op river rafting game.
5) Kinect Sports - "...has six activities including boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis. To serve a volleyball, you mimic the real motion; in soccer, you can kick the ball or do a header."
UPDATE: looks like Kinect is plastered all over Xbox.com now
I started stalking #xboxe3 on Twitter last night and have already been tweetgushing this morning. LOL I'm so excited! I think Kinect is going to make for a great family gaming experience here.
I'm really trying to be more than just "meh" about Kinect... really trying but failing miserably. I was hoping for a bit more right off the bat (although the games do sound very cute) I'm just not as interested as I hoped I'd be. I do still like the idea of using it in Fable III but if there's no fitness type games aside from the Kinect Sports out soon after it launches, I'll just save my money and buy a Wii.
CATS!!!!!! more and more cats!!! lol Ok so yea i want that Kinectimals game! and the Dance Central, the Wii one is fun so i hope this one is better and with better moves!
Ok, after seeing the presentation, I must have it! (Didn't take long for me to drink the Koolaid ) Joyride, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, and sadly enough for anyone who might happen to wander past my house and witness the horror, Dance Central are must haves. If not at launch, very soon after.
It's a must have here, too!! From the very first intro today on xboxe3 I thought "Ok. I GOTTA have that for daughter #2!" Hands-free gaming is going to be SO GOOD for her, and fun for my whole fam.
me and my husband both want a copy, but gamestop says "one per household." I have a system and hubby has a system. Do you think they will notice if he gets one from gamestop downstairs in mall and I get one upstairs? I can't really see it selling out that fast considering how many people are bashing it on facebook and ign forums.

I was wondering the same thing! We have two setups here, too.
A Twitter friend posted a link to Best Buy's Canadian site advertising the games at 69.99$ As much of the koolaid as I drank yesterday, the only game I'd really be willing to shell out the cash on is the fitness game. I'll be waiting to see if there's a Kinect hardware/game bundle offered at a reasonable price... if the hardware itself is over 100$ Canadian and the games are 70$+ after taxes I'll be holding off for a while.
ETA: Though I don't get why they'd post that and then say "It's only an estimate." (which I hear in my head in the Monty Python way since it just seems silly to list a price now)

I say go for it!!!! How are they going to be able to tell your both at 2 different stores buying the same item.
Someone tweeted that Gamestop has Kinect listed at $149.99 -- http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=78103 I have to start saving now!

$150 NO THANKS!!! i have way to many games between now & April 2011 (7 that i can think of off the top of my head) that are coming out. That buying that is not @ the top of my wish list!
See, the 149$ is pretty reasonable to me, if a Kinect game of your choice is included (I just had to stop myself from typing Kinetic... this is like the 4 billionth time I've had to stop & correct myself, lol). If it's that price without a game, noooo way.
I hope to save up for one later on in the year but it will be awhile before I get one. We also want to get one of the new Xbox consoles they looked really nice.
I'm going to wait as well, I picked up way too many games for the wii launch and you could tell the developers were rushed and not sure how to utilize the new technology yet. Not making that mistake again!
I just want it for the voice commands. I hope they work with video because it would be so nice to just say "xbox pause" when I am watching a movie instead of having to turn my controller back on to pause when I get a phone call.
i am with u on that lilly i am going to wait till all the lil kinks are taken care of then i will get it but i am looking foward to it! i think it's amazing how technology came so far as to allowing u to play hands free and no pads to stand on! WoW! :-O
