I got an email on Saturday (Friday in the US) from Blizzard saying that my WoW account that has been inactive for the past 18 months or so has just been perma banned for "exploitative activity" due to abusing the economy.

How does this happen? I was unsure if I would play again, but I wasn't discounting it completely. If they really wont give my account back then I certainly wont be playing it again.. starting from scratch just takes way too long. :(

I emailed them, but I don't know that it will help or that they'll believe me.

It sounds like your account was hacked :( That really sucks! Hopefully you'll be able to convince them to remove the ban.

It was definitely Blizzard? I had an e-mail a couple weeks ago of the same nature. The only thing is it came to my OLD e-mail address (I had recently changed my Battle.net sign on address) so I knew something was definitely not right. And sure enough, I hovered over the link and looked at the bottom to see it was not any of blizzard's sites.

Otherwise, if it was them I'm with Liora. Sounds like you were hacked. D:

Unfortunately it was Blizzard, I checked Battle.net and it's definitely been banned. Still waiting on a reply email, does anyone know how long they generally take with it? Or should I try again? :p

Update:

Greetings,

It has come to our attention that your account security may be at risk. In an effort to combat this, we have reset your password as a preventative measure.

To limit the amount of interruption this may cause, we have taken the liberty of sending a new password to this account's registered email address.

We have also forwarded your account information to our character specialists for further investigation and potential restoration. Please keep in mind that, due to the nature and complexity of these investigations, it may take several days for us to contact you with the findings of our investigation. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter and apologize for any ensuing delay.

So glad they were able to follow it up.. smile

Glad it was settled smile

Hackers seem to becoming a huge problem in WoW, at least more than it was before. I have friends getting hacked left and right.

I don't really have any friends that I talk to regularly that play WoW, and in Dark Age of Camelot if they ban you then there is no way you're getting your account back so I was pretty much floored when I heard they banned it after I hadn't played in so long.

Pretty confident now that when they look into it they'll restore everything smile Only worry now is what damage the hackers did to the account.

Oh well, fun and games :p

Yeah, my account was hacked recently too, and I ended up starting over completely. =[

Once your account is restored, you might want to consider putting an authenticator on it...
