Well, my new slim has been working fine for 3 months, including last night when my boyfriend played for a couple of hours, no issues at all. He goes in to play today and nothing! No response at all! The light on the power brick is amber when plugged in on its own, then red when connected to the xbox. It is obviously within the 1 year warranty however I have turned the house upside down and can't find my receipt. I tried to register my console in anticipation of possibly requesting a repair but the damn thing doesn't find my address!! Any ideas, tips, help would be appreciated. Just with Fable 3 preordered and a bloody afternoon booked off to play it on the 29th. Sooooo angry angry

Tell the retailer that the XBox was a gift and you don't have a receipt for it and can't ask the person who gave it to you because it'd be rude.

Generally they can figure something out, especially considering they haven't even been out for 12 months.

Or if you feel bad about lying about that, just tell them the truth and that you can't find it. Surely they'll do something to help you if you're nice enough. I work in retail and I know we do. I lie to our stockists if the customer doesn't bring the receipt and I know they've only purchased it recently (I just sent back a Thomas Sabo charm to the stockist because the clasp was faulty and she didn't have a receipt either).

First, I would definitely try a different power outlet.

Next, you can also try unplugging EVERYTHING. The power supply from the back of your Xbox, the wall AND the power supply itself and plug them all back in. If this doesn't work, try calling Xbox customer support. (Also, they don't need your receipt to register your Xbox if you are thinking of getting a repair!)

Good luck!!!

Thanks girls, I tried all the unplugging and plugging stuff, didn't work. It seems to be a problem that is known about, we called up support and apparently are getting a new power brick issued. If there is one in the UK it won't take long but if not it could be 2 - 3 weeks! With Fable coming on Friday too grrr! Quite annoyed at a 3 month old console having a problem and it's not like I play it for 20 hours straight or anything. Never got any of the auto shutdown or error messages that are supposed to happen first. shut eye

There's more than just reliability issues that affect the health of a console. A console can be perfectly healthy, go through a power storm and never work again beacause a surge protector didn't work. I fried two consoles that way before realizing what was going on and made sure to turn my box off.
