Every year for tax write off purposes, I upgrade my computer equipment (I'm considered self-employed). I've always had PC's but have been curious about Mac's. I know that they don't get viruses like PC's do, but is the hardware more reliable etc?

If you have a MAC, what do you like best about it?

I could never go back to a PC. I use a PC at work and Can't wait to get home to my MacBook Pro. There is a learning curve but there isn't the slow down for the antivirus updates and scans. It runs smoother and I find things a lot easier. I did buy MAC Office so that I could work on word, excel and powerpoint, but the beauty of a MAC is hard to give up. Shortcuts are easier etc.

Well, the real beauty in macs is that you can run windows on them, too wink

I would be happy to never have to use a PC again. Don't expect to be able to play every single high end game out there but for everything else, I just love it.

I love the speed, the applications, the ease of setting things up without having to bother with complicated installs, even little things like screen font rendering.

It's just a "make Sara happy" machine haha

I won't lie, I've had my fair share of problems with them - I had a bad screen in one 8 years ago (Yes, a lonnnnnng ass time ago) and last year, my logic board went on my newer one. I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend getting the Applecare protection. Mine was covered when the logic board went. The cost of repair turned out to be about $1300 but it was free under the warranty. (thank god!)

It seems that everyone that has ever had a Mac loves them and never wants to go back to PC. It is nice to know that several familiar programs can work on a Mac too. (Windows too!)

I like my PC a lot but I do have a 24" iMac and it's a thing of beauty. I do tend to do a lot of my hard core work on the PC but that's partly because I don't want to shell out thousands of dollars to replace things like Adobe Creative Suite. Also, I don't think they make a version of 3ds Max for the Mac. :(

I always said 'Nah I'll never give up on windows. Mac's are damn complicated'.

My boyfriend gave me money specifically to put towards buying an iMac. It sat in the corner for months whilst i continued to use my laptop.

I now understand why people say they will never go back to windows after Mac's. Iv never once had any issues with it. Never crashed. Turns on and off within seconds. Runs games perfectly (which of course is always a bonus!).

Yeh, a lot of software wont run on the mac OS, but apple are clever and have shoved a program called bootcamp on all new Macs, so all you need to do is buy a copy of windows OS and you can either run it as a mac or a pc.

Even there word program (pages) has a save option that allows you to save any docs you write as a word doc as well as powerpoint etc.

Id recommend going to an apple store. They will give you one on one help and show you how a mac will compete with any pc you buy.

As has been said, get the apple care plans. Apple are pretty awesome with there repairs. They tend to replace rather than repair aswell, meaning you get a nice shiney new mac smile
