How was FFXI? I'm actually a big FF fan, but also haven't heard too many good things about the game (and the subscription fee put me off).
And how about FFIV?
I really liked FFXI, and my DH and I played for a while. I found there was a bit of a learning curve getting used to the interface, but once you figured it out, the game was fun. It was incredibly detailed and there was a ton of stuff to do, between questing, leveling, and crafting/trades. FFXI still has the best "Auction House" system that I've seen yet in a game (IMHO). We found it got tough at a certain level though and it was hard to find groups. My DH and I played together, so at least we always had two players to start a group with (and I was a white mage [healer] which helped), and we did have other friends who had joined us after playing DAoC. A friend of ours complained though that if we weren't on, sometimes she would wait for hours to get a group (I can't remember which class she played). It may be different now (that was years ago), but I seem to remember that there wasn't much you could do solo or with a small group.
My DH tried FFIV (I didn't), but he said it was awful, and stopped playing after a short time.
As for Age of Conan, my DH and I played for a while, but we stopped around level 20. It was OK, but I don't think we'll play again. At the moment, I have been sucked back in to WoW, and my DH is trying out Rift. I think if I was going to give a game another try, I might go back and try Aion again.
