Poll
Ready to hop into multiplayer?
Always! I rarely play on my own. Even if I’m playing a single player game I prefer to be in a party to chat with. 8
When there are friends around, I hit them up and ask if they want to play something. If not I play on my own. 9
I like playing with others, but I’m too shy to initiate it. I usually play on my own unless someone asks me to join. 16
Sometimes I like playing with others on special events or occasions, but most of the time I prefer doing my own thing. 0
I actually would love to play more multiplayer and socialize, but my XBL friends are not really into it. 3
I don’t feel comfortable in multiplayer, especially with strangers, so I mostly avoid it. 6
I only play single player games. Couldn’t care less about multiplayer options. 0

Been wondering what type of multiplayer gamer you might be. I think we discussed that topic before in some other thread, months ago, but yeah.. I love polls cheese And we have a bunch new girls around.

Personally I love playing multiplayer! I also do have evenings or days though in which I just want to finish a single player game or hunt for a certain achievement and don't feel like company because talking would distract me. Happens when I've just gotten into a game and am in love with it, or when I'm THAT close to completing it. I'm always happy to be invited to a party or a game, but I rarely send invitations myself, although it's become a bit more frequent with all the nice ladies around. I have to be very comfortable around someone to "dare", lol. I just got a thing about not disturbing people.

I also really enjoy all the chatter and noise that's bound to happen when a few girls get together. I tend to feel more comfortable with 3+ players because I'm part of a pack instead of "the other person" and feel a lot more secure, but it all depends on who I play with.

So that's me, who're you? smile

I wouldn't say I'm too shy but I generally don't initiate it. But if people ask me I'll usually join. I've also been known to just jump in someone's game if I see them playing a joinable game.

Okay, I think rephrase that sentence in the poll with "generally don't initiate".

Edit: oh.. it seems I can't. Oh well :D

Edit 2: on second thought it makes perfect sense that you can't edit a poll (especially once people have already voted in it). Imagine how "do you like to hang out with friends" could suddenly turn into "do you like to pee in public"?

hahaha - I have seen some facebook trolling like that. Someone posts something nice and the next person says something really horrid and if someone tells them off they delete it and it looks like they are telling off the person who posted something nice.

I have to say that I would have laughed very hard if you had changed my vote to "I like to pee in public". I'm actually horrified at all the people I do see pee in public here. Mostly guys. I guess I'm just not used to seeing it and it seems a bit unsanitary and smelly for other people but to each his own I guess. I'm starting to get used to it but I don't think I'll ever be comfortable with it.

I don't know that I am too shy I just don't want to bother anyone. I guess I figure if they want to play something they can see that I am on too so they will invite me. But I am usually playing with hubby except on the weekends so I don't feel annoyed that ppl don't usually invite me. I figure even if it is a weekend they probably just figure I am busy or something, idk, but I don't worry about it. If I get an invite I play if not I don't.

This is why I think it's great we set up play dates online.

I often don't mind being invited when I'm online but a lot of the time I'm also doing other things while I'm playing. e.g. laundry or house cleaning or paying bills or stopping to eat dinner with my sweetie, etc. If it's scheduled then it's a little easier to make sure there is a set block of time to play.

@Kwynn: I know - especially on Saturday or Sunday afternoons I'm often afk just leaving my game on pause to do some chores or just hang out with my boyfriend. I've started to set my online status to "away" when I'd generally be up for multiplayer, but maybe not immediately - or not with like, the handful random guys on my list I added me to get some achievements with sometime. Sometimes I play offline when I know I don't have time AT ALL because I'm about to leave for something else or so and just want to do something really quickly, because I always feel like such a killjoy when I get an invitation and need to explain "sorry, but you know, there's this thing I gotta do blabla"

You know what I think Microsoft should do? Implement the online status "Free/Available" similar to the ICQ "free for chat" symbol. That way you could tell others with just a small icon/expression whether you're up for playing or not. I prefer that to signaling the opposite with "Busy" because "busy" has that "don't dare disturb me" touch to it.

Man I think too much about what other people think.

@eehmnn - just read your comment lol. Last weekend on the rock festival I peed in almost-public behind some thin trees all the time (like many other people) because the line in front of the plastic toilets was way too long and I would've missed too many songs. The other option would've been to cut back on the drinks... but.. nah raspberry Now there I didn't care about what the others would think lol.

"I like playing with others, but I’m too shy to initiate it. I usually play on my own unless someone asks me to join."

This is me too x.x Also I actually don't have very many girls on my friend list other than the few from GamerchiX and here to be honest lol. Most of the guys on there have their little groups they play Black Ops or whatever with already and I am just way too scared to join into those cuz of all the bad experiences I've had on the CoD games... So I'm usually either alone or with like 1-2 other people that actually go out of their way to play with me all the time.

@Lucienna: That would actually be really cool lol. I kinda lost count of the number of times I'd log on and immediately see a message pop up of this one guy who constantly wants to play Left 4 Dead, and don't get me wrong I love the game but good lord x.x At least give me a minute to look around before bombarding me with requests. I feel so bad when I have to tell him like every other day that I'd like to play Oblivion or something instead @_@

I love it when I see one of you gals pop up online. I just think to myself "SPAM" and blast you with party invites. It is fun you should try it.
I love playing MP and have no real qualms any more about inviting peeps. I figure, if you don't want to join in a game or party you don't have to. You gals can always invite me to a party, if I am not already in one I will join yours and play.
I am not shy and would love to play with you.

Would you want to play with me? That remains to be seen.

Tinako - haha.. I know what you mean. Okay, so you being shy about disturbing others like me too means we gonna toss a coin about who invites whom to Borderlands lol smile Or we just arrange a fixed date :D (and I try doing the right time zone calculations this time)

Actually I think I have around 40-50 girls on my list compared to around 20 guys and I really love that. Problem is that ALSO many of these girls are in different time zones I think also very polite about not disturbing others.. like me. I guess I have around 10 people on my list I game with on a regular basis. It's a nice little crowd though it could be bigger, but I also know I feel sooo bad when I receive 2 invitations at the same time and have to tell one group/person "erm sorry.. gonna join the other one" D: - so I'm happy with that number.

Maribel - my boyfriend has a secret statistic of the number of times a popchix name pops up in a "I had so much fun playing with x"-conversation and he did mention a while ago you're among the top 3 lol. He also claims he can guess who I play with just by analyzing my laughter volume.

Lol if we do an arranged date I can get it going but it's like if I try and send an invite just out of the blue, it usually ends up sounding something like "Hey I was wondering if maybe you wanted to play, if you're not busy, this game, if you have time and oh yeah if you're not busy, did I mention that?" lol. My parents were insanely strict about what's polite and what's not so I have trouble kind of gauging what's gonna be ok and what's not. Cuz apparently not everyone is that uptight @_@

Tinako - I have exactly the same issue. Honestly I think it's because where I grew up when you'd enter a room you'd never know which mood swing you'd be confronted with. Could be all nice and welcoming or you could like totally be in the way and not wanted. That way you get so many different signals about what's ok and what's not ok that it can totally confuse a child or teenager. It's crazy how those little childhood things still carry on and make someone become so careful. Apparently I don't seem that shy in RL, more like bubbly and outgoing, people are sometimes baffled to hear I have issues with that. In any case I'll boldly try and send you a message lol.

Maribel - ha, wouldn't you like to know! lol. nah, just kidding. Always enjoy playing with you. My bf is like totally absorbed in his art stuff right now and not so much into gaming, but when Diablo 3 comes out I guess I wouldn't be able to stop him from joining even if I wanted to smile

I am also in the too shy category. Except for a few people I wait to be invited because I don't want to be a bother. But if I don't feel like playing I will let you know. I always just say ask me if I am online. You could convince me to play. You never know. smile

My main problem is that I love RPGs and am pretty bad at FPS. I am usually addicted to a game like Fallout, Fable or Dragon Age and get so into it, I usually put myself as showing Offline.

I keep saying to my boyfriend that I need to get one of the games you ladies play so I can join in, it sounds like great fun!

I'm also really shy about bothering people and talking to strangers over Live. Also, when I first got Live I was playing DAO when a message popped up. I decided I'd reply later since I don't have they keyboard so it takes me ages to type a message, and also I was right in the middle of a big fight or something (and I guess they could see it was a single player game) but about 5 minutes (no more than that) and 2 more messages later I got a sweary F-you message and off the friend list rolleyes put me right off talking to strangers!

When I first started playing online I was extremely shy. Didn't use a mic, etc. Now I jump into games with random people all the time and if good communication is going on I contribute. Yes, I get the inevitable question "are you a chick?" lol. Usually it's just because they can't tell between female voices and little boys hahaha! Sometimes they cool after that and go back to playing the game. If they get out of line, i just leave that game. no bigs. Most of the males on my friend list come from these random encounters. There are nice guys on xbl. I know...but it's true.
