I love reading on my iPad. What don't you like about it?

I know Trixie absolutely loves her Kindle though.

Hmm I haven't personally tried a kindle. I use my iPad with the Kindle app and like it a lot.

I have been debating this very thing. I decided before I spent any money on a device to read I would give the library a shot. So far I am loving the library - then again it is only a few blocks from my work so it works out.
I would get a kindle otherwise, they look small sleek and read-y. lol

I love reading on my iPad, the past few books I've bought have been through the kindle app. I'm still working on my old collection of books though. I suppose you have to figure out what 'it' is that you don't like about reading on the iPad, is it the fact it's not a physical book or is it the actual iPad screen?

Some book styles have been a little boring on the iPad, possibly finding 'tester' samples to see if different book styles are more your thing than others?

I do like my ipad and the kindle app is okay, but I just feel like I can't get comfortable with my ipad. I just end up reading a few pages at a time before stopping, where I'm usually a marathon reader.. very frustrating!

I LOVE my Kindle! It's one of the originals and still going strong. smile I have an iPad, and I like reading on it in darkened rooms (like if Hubs is gaming on a single player campaign and I'm sitting next to him). However I can't bring it outside in the sunshine to read, and I spend a lot of time out there in the summer (either relaxing or watching the kids in the pool). The Kindle is great for bright light situations and I find the 'newsprint' type page style much easier on my eyes. I also find it lighter to hold for longer periods of time. (because usually once I get sucked into a book I can't put it down until I'm done lol)

I use Kindle for android and I love it... I do have more free books than anything else but I first read and downloaded the Girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy and the hunger games trilogy on there. I like to read on my lunch break so its very convenient and it was a life saver when I had bronchitis and had to sit and wait at the walmart pharmacy for almost 40 minutes... i would have died sitting on that bench with nothing to do.

After reading this thread back and forth I've decided to get a kindle. I love reading, but unfortunately I read superfast and the nearest library isn't really that near. I have limited space for my books (because everything's clustered with games.. aaaaahh raspberry) so this sounds like a really great option. I will arrive today and I'm happy already.

I don't have a kindle but I have the kindle app on my phone lol. Seems to work fine for me and it's definitely handy when I'm out and about and don't feel like dragging a few novels with me to read while I'm waiting or whatever.

Okay seriously this kindle thing is the most amazing thing I've seen in a while. I LOVE IT!

What I like about it:
- Small size and little weight, feels like a light book when holding it while it's in its case.
- Get free samples of each and every book before you buy it.
- Free internet access with the option to switch to wi-fi when I'm at home.
- The fact that downloading books works within a few seconds and basically everywhere.
- Look up words while reading, there are English and German dictionairies that come with it.
- Mark and comment passages in your book, option to see what other readers have marked, commented and share.
- Search through your whole library (or on google or wikipedia or the kindle store).
- The option to make named "collections" to sort your books.
- The way the screen seems like you're reading a book, no background lighting and not shiny, so you can read in bright sunlight.
- Adjustable font, font size and everything you could do in a word document as well.
- Lots of free books! And really cheap books as well.
- Very quick charging via USB, battery seems to last a really long time.
- The option to have books read out aloud to you or to play audio books.

What I don't like about it:
- Well, it's an electronic device, so I wouldn't take it into the bathtub or to the beach in fear of it getting wet or stolen >.<
- The availability of books seems still a bit limited. I couldn't find some of the books I was looking for.
- Although I like to read in English, the availability of German books is even more limited.
- I wish it was in color. Or had a color option at least.
- You can't just give a book you've finished to a friend or only borrow one (although they said they are working on both options).

What I don't care about:
- The option to share/rate stuff on Facebook/Twitter via Kindle.

As I said.. omg... I love it. Even my boyfriend wants one now after I showed him all the options yesterday. There are still a lot of books I'd rather have as "book" instead of on my kindle, especially art books or beautifully illustrated ones, but still, this is amazing and it's just awesome to travel light without carrying your whole library with you and getting new books on the fly when you have finished your old ones.

Yes, amazon.de. It will be automatically linked to the account you ordered it from, but you can also change that if you don't want it. Right now they also have an offer for 20% off the case and 100 English books for 1€ each, as well as a lot of free stuff. Man I'm still impressed xD

I adore my kindle.

I am a hardcore reader - I have two big bookcases jam packed with books and have no space left. I doubted I would like the kindle as I love the feel of a proper book, and I like reading in the bath. I was also worried about reading a screen and getting a headache.

But I love the kindle now, it's so light and easy to hold, the screen is fine (in fact better, as you can increase the text size), small illustrations are fantastic (like in Terry Pratchett books there are sometimes small pictures- there's one of the "Wee Free Men" and it looks so cool) and you can have thousands of books on it.

I know exactly what you mean - I'm a hardcore reader as well and love the feel that a good book has. Kindle comes really close to it and has several advantages on top of that.

I have both a Kindle and a nook, but since I got my Kindle I've sort of abandoned my nook. I don't have an iPad though but I can read books off my phone without it bothering me. However, I feel like reading off a kindle or a nook is better for my eyes. Or at least it feels that way.

I was just re-reading this thread and it made me wonder how many items I have on my Kindle now, so I checked. 366! I love that I can carry multiple bookshelves with me.
