I have super thick hair & now that I'm growing it out to donate it, no clips/barrettes hold. I've gone to the store & tried almost each one that says for thick hair, but it won't hold for me.

The only thing that will hold are pony tail holders, but I can only use those for so long. Any suggestions on economical brands?? I'm up for barreettes clips, etc.

I have the same issue. My hair is really wavy and thick and clips are useless. They scream at me when I try closing them HAHA

I almost always have my hair up in a sort of scruffy bun and have to use the pony tail bands to hold it. I have always wanted to try this, though:

I have very fine hair, but I have a lot of it so in some ways I get your problem and some ways I don't. I usually have too much hair for a lot of clips and the ones that I don't they just slide right out.

I do like to pull my hair up with chopsticks, or pencils, or short knitting needles and I honestly think it is easier if you have thick hair because they slide right out of thin hair. I also like braids although I hate doing them on myself. I do like twisting my hair though. You can do it all the way back and then make a ponytail or you can just do the front and then it is easier to use some octopus clips. Kind of like this, but with more twist and less braid.

I like to use Scunci Octopus clips for my hair, but they are not big enough to do all of it so I usually use a few of the smaller ones. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Scunci-No-Slip-Grip-Large-Octopus-Clip/21693312

You could also just use bobby pins. If you use enough of them they work. I used to pull a lot of the hair to the top of my head in a kind of messy look and them either leave the rest or put in a ponytail.
