I am looking to vary my fitness routine some, and do something different than going to the gym. I've always been tempted to get the Wii, especially for the fitness games like Wii Fit, EA Active, Biggest Loser etc, but I'm worried that its better in theory.

How many of you ladies purchased your Wii strictly for fitness type games? Do you still use it, or did it quickly become a dust collector on the shelf?

I know everyone's determination and "stick with it'ness" levels are different, but is it the kind of thing that feels like it can make it thru the long haul as a legit fitness alternative, or does it feel more like a fad / gets old real quick? Do you really feel like your getting a work out or do you spend more cycling thru menus rather than actually working out?

I hope what I'm asking is making sense smile

I got Wii Fit for my birthday last year. I used it for a bit but it eventually ended up on the shelf. It is the only fitness game I have for the system. One complaint I have about it is that there was very few high impact choices. If you really want a good cardio work out it is not the best thing in the world. There are some addtional accessories you can get for it like risers which might help with that. I personally thought it was a good way to get going on a rutine and it was great for my posture but after a while it is not as effective.

I too had the Wii fit and it also ended up on a shelf. I just purchased EA Active as I've heard it had better results but have yet to use it. I lent my BF my Wii and she's bringing it back today. I will use it tomorrow as I just started the Atkins yesterday.

I'm afraid that I'll invest money into it, and find that it didn't meet my excersize expectations, and end up on the shelf.

Ladies, when you try EA Active, let me know if it ended being more motivational and had better longevity than the Wii Fit.

Honestly if you're looking for a fitness game, get EA Active. Wii fit is fun and all but it will not give you an actual work out like EA Active does. I'd recommend getting EA Active: More workouts or whatever the expansion is called and getting a better resistance band. I love EA Active. I didn't buy my Wii specifically for it, but I do use it now mostly for working out. You don't need the balance board so you can save yourself $100 and just get EA Active.

I also got Gold's Gym Cardio workout or whatever it's called. It's really fun and if you have arm weights, it adds a whole new dimension to the workout. I get a great upper body workout. My arms are so sore and I only use 2lb weights on each arm.

I 100% recommend EA Active! smile But get the second one that came out. It has the 60 day challenge, which is awesome, and is just better all around.

Wii fit is great if you are looking to work on flexibility or balance or the like but it really isn't what I would call a workout. I have EA Active and that is more of a workout (I plan on eventually picking up the expansion). The only downside to that game is that stupid freaking band that you need to wear around your thigh. If you do go with EA Active I would recommend just sewing a similar shaped pocket on a pair of shorts or yoga pants for the nunchuck instead.

I got wii fit, used it for a few weeks, then it sat on the shelf until I resold it. ..I never tried anything but the wii fit game, but it just was not happening!

I think the fitness games really depend on you, i play Wii fit and Wii fit plus for an hour everyday and enjoy it but I'm not sure if that's because i do it with my hubby's mum so we both keep each other going and at the end of the week i go to hers and we have weekly way in and talk about the activity's we find difficult but i don't think it really gives you a good workout so that's why i got swimming every sunday and running when ever i can but i must say EA Active looks like it does give you an actual work out then the Wii Fit games but i cant really give much feedback as i'm waiting for mine to be delivered.

I originally bought the wii just for games and party games. I did happen to buy Wii Fit but the board cannot take much and broke after a year. Trying to find a replacement now. Wii Fit was only good for lower half. I couldn't see that it helped any thing above the waist. I did go from a 18 to a 16 in pants. For the upper half I played Golds Gym. Golds Gym is a boxing game. I've lost several inches in the chest on that one too. I haven't tried EA Active, but I imagine it does both upper and body better then wii fit is made for.

I got my wii on day one - because I absolutely had to have one after all the pre-release hype. That was before all the party games and wii crapware hit the market. The first game I played on it was Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess, and it was (and still is) amazing. I will admit that I don't really play my wii much because I haven't found a game I would really like to play, and the few I felt like I would enjoy ended up being a huge disappointment (Dead Space Extraction, The Conduit). I did pick up some titles recently (Okami, Cursed Mountain -- looking for No more heroes) -- so I'll probably start playing again real soon.
