Yeah, I know, right? Why should the Wii have that function? I really don't think it's necessary.

Well because not everyone has an xbox so they're making it available for Wii owners as well. Good for them but i'll keep using it on my xbox

we dont have netflix on xbox live here in australia. We have Zune.. waaaay overpriced too. Netflix might be a good option for the Wii here? Is it coming to Australia?

No Netflix is an American only company. Unless they open a branch overseas it's only available in the USA.
