Movie Night was originally dreamed up by Trixie for the Chix on Xbox.com, to use the function of "Partys" on Netflix.
We've got two problems with this:
1, not all the Chix have access to Netflix. Which sucks because we want everyone to be able to take part.
2, there are waaaaaay less movies then we'd hoped for that allow for Party viewing. Which sucks, because it's actually alot of fun to watch movies together.
I've been trying to come up with a solution for the last few weeks, and just keep striking out, so I thought to myself, why not ask you gals and see what you'd like Movie night to actually BE.
Do you want it to be something that we as a group choose, and then talk about, or just a movie suggestion, so that people can experience different kinds of movies?
Well, what if we occasionally did a night where the girls who have netflix do a party viewing as a group. (Maybe we can seek out truly awful movies! That's how I found the gem "Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter" lol) And then we can have one more frequent where we suggest a movie for people to watch on their own time, and chat about it later?
Weeeelll, there IS a way to "mooch" Netflix off of a friend who DOES have an account... Not sure if I should post HOW on the forums, so I'm not going to... Just send me a PM on here or text message on my XBL gtag if you want to know...

This seems pretty feasible. There's no way to fully include everyone without uh illicit means.
It's not illegal... (Not that I know of anyway) I might as well say it to avoid confusion: It's a matter of linking via code and up to 6 can be linked on one account...

I just like using the term "illicit"
Please don't use that term lightly then as it causes confusion...
While that's possible, that's coming pretty close to a violation of the ToU, and I'd prefer to not go down that road. I also like Eith's idea, but I'm very open to any suggestion right now
The other thing about Netflix, is I think in their ToS/ToU it's a violation to use their services if you live outside the continental US. That also hinders movie night for those who live in other countries. I think Eith's suggestion is as close as it can get.
If you want my two cents, I would skip doing discussion groups for a few reasons...
For the Chix4Flix silvertag movie group, we kinda did it like a book club. We picked a movie, gave everyone time to watch, and then picked a discussion date (date/time for chat over at major nelson). Only problem was that it was pretty hit or miss - sure tons of people say they will show up, but most forgot. Then we skipped the major nelson chat and tried creating a discussion thread for that movie -- which I hated to do because I didn't want to clog up the treehouse forums due to limited space. It worked ok - but thread participation was kinda slow (all thread participation can be slow at times at the treehouse to be honest). Not really a problem over here at popchix as people are a bit more active. Also, for the movies I hosted, I tried to come up with a list of discussion points (like a book club would do) so people could pick what they wanted to talk about. But to be honest, it seemed like people were more interested in voting for the next movie than actually doing a discussion. Also, there were people whose idea of watching a movie is going to watch a movie that's currently in a theater versus others who wanted to watch a movie that just came out on DVD, etc which created a problem (kinda split the number of people participating, but for the in-theater movies a few people started watch illegal copies online which I really didn't want to encourage at all). I didn't do the netflix movie hosting as I didn't have it at the time.
Because we have more room over here, people can pretty much create their own movie discussions should they want to. I think doing a netflix movie hosting is the way to go. And because netflix is also available for PS3 and coming soon to wii, it wouldn't exclude anyone who isn't an xbox owner.
Thanks for the input X1up, I wasn't sure if whomever had been running it on XGX had transferred over. You put into words a lot of my concerns.
It wounds like the best way to handle this is to pick a movie, one a week, and treat it like a suggestion - if people want to try and watch it they can. If it sounds like something that's not interesting, then they can skip it for the week. We have the ability to generate a forum thread for each Movie Night I think, and if people choose to talk about the movie they can, if they aren't interested, then they can skip it for that week. This way, we can get around anyone having to have Netflix, you can get the movie from a local source as well.

I just set up Netflix on my xbox again and would love do Party Movie viewings.

I just got my free netflix trial today and was wondering if any of you girls have seen anything good lately? Any suggestions? Also I really think the idea of a movie night is a cool idea and would definitely be interested in participating if any of y'all were still interested.

DOCTOR WHO...starting with the 2005 series (I'll go back after I finish this series)
I've been watching Dr. Who for about the last three months. I have seen seasons 1-4 which ended with david tennant playing the Dr. and was about to start season five with the new Dr., although I much preferred David Tennant :( Also if anyone watches Torchwood, I just started watching the first season last night. :D

I started with season 5 this year on the BBC America and got hooked....I love Matt Smith a lot though David Tennant is phenomenal as well and I liked whoever played #9 he was kinda awesome. Torchwood I'm going to start after I finish season 4 - right now I'm in season 3 with Martha (still mourning Rose, Jackie, and Mickey lol...I loved them so damn much -- also I swear when I play Fable 3 that I hear Jackie talking as the NPC's LOL)
Also I love dalek's....they crack me up every time haha
Oh I love movie nights! I think kitty's idea is great since people can watch it if they're interested. My only concern is picking a movie that at least a few people would be interested in. If I can make a suggestion, what about a casting a poll of about 4-5 movies and depending on the votes will be the order in which they're watched? For example, the movie with the most votes will be seen week one, the next week two and so on. And any that are not voted on will be removed. The movies can either be chosen randomly or someone can actually select from different genres
This way you'll have a lineup of movies for at least a month so it's not too time consuming to choose movies or having to do this weekly. I'd be more than happy to help with this if this suggestion works for all you ladies!
