With all the SAW movies throughout the years, it was bound to happen - SAW the videogame. In this third-person survival horror and puzzle game you play as Detective David Tapp (As played by Danny Glover in the original SAW movie and also SAW V). In the opening scene, you wake up in a bathroom with Jigsaw's classic puzzle - the reversible bear trap. In order to free yourself, you must look for the clues that Jigsaw has left behind....can you solve it in time?
When I first heard about the game, I was super excited. I love solving puzzles and I was hoping it would be similar to Batman: Arkham Asylum. Very quickly, I grew bored of the game. The game gave me a headache because it was so dark and hard to see and made me dizzy, since I constantly had to look around on the floor in order to not get caught with a tripwire or glass.
Throughout the game you have to look through cabinets and hidden rooms to find pieces to solve other puzzles and possibly find some hypos (health). 9 times out of 10 the filing cabinets are empty, so it ends up being a waste of time and outright annoying. On the "up" side, this game is an awesome achievement game. You get an achievement for each weapon you use to "down" an enemy.
This game ended up being very monotonous and the puzzles weren't really that hard to solve. It felt like it was rushed.
Overall, SAW the videogame SAWCKS! 2 out of 5
Survival Guide
- Always have a light source on you such as a lighter or a flashlight
- Constantly look on the ground to make sure you don't step on any glass since you are barefoot
- Always have a weapon in your hand. It makes it a lot easier to kill your enemy (if you want to)
- DO NOT RUN! There are a ton of booby traps scattered around the game. If you are not careful your head will be shot off
