Got a special occasion coming up and want to do something special for a loved one? Why not surprise them with a fancy omelet? It’s pretty easy, and will blow people’s socks off!
What you’ll need:
- A plan
- 2 eggs
- Small cookie cutters or fondant cutters. I picked up this set from Michael’s for about $12
Take two eggs and reserve one white. Beat the one whole egg and remaining yolk, and put it in your favorite nonstick pan for omelets. You want the burner to be on medium low for this. Cook the egg until it’s set but not quite done. I found this worked best for me when the omelet was on the thin side. Take it out of the pan (you don’t want to risk scratching the finish, plus hot pans are hot) and use your cutters to cut out your design. I strongly recommend having a plan in advance. You want to get your design done and back in the pan before the egg cools. Nobody likes reheated eggs!
Once that’s done, put the egg white in the pan, then put the omelet back in with the cutout part over the egg white. At this point, you can finish your omelet as usual. The egg white will fill in the holes and leave you with a decorated omelet!
Don’t feel like you have to turn your omelet into Swiss cheese to make something impressive. Sometimes a simple design and some thoughtful food placement is all it takes!
One of the best things about this is you’re using food you’d normally eat anyway, so you’re getting your holiday spirit without any extra calories. The cutters will also work on fruits and vegetables, so you can make things as elaborate as you want.
Give it a try! Post pictures if you do!
